November 8, 2024 (Mount Pearl, NL) – The City of Mount Pearl will present a cheque to local food banks on behalf of the thousands of residents who participated in the second annual Haunting of Powers Pond event. The donation of $11,745 will be officially presented during the next public council meeting on November 12, 2024. This Halloween-themed “spooktacular,” held from October 18 to 27, 2024, attracted crowds from across the Avalon Peninsula and showcased the community’s enduring spirit of generosity.

The funds raised will be evenly divided among three local food banks, each receiving $3,915 to help continue their vital work in the community:

– Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Peter’s
– Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Mary Queen of the World
– The Salvation Army

Mayor Dave Aker expressed gratitude for the event’s success: “We are thrilled to see ‘The Haunting of Power’s Pond’ return for its second year with even greater success. The overwhelming support from our community, with thousands joining us, truly showcases the generous spirit of Mount Pearl. These donations will make a significant impact in addressing food insecurity in our area.”

In addition to raising critical funds, the event underscored the importance of community support as we approach the holiday season—a time when food bank reliance often rises.

The continued success of this event shows our community’s commitment to supporting those in need. The City would like to thank everyone who participated and helped make this donation possible.
