November 23rd, 2023 (Mount Pearl, NL) – Today, the City of Mount Pearl donated $11,601.50 to local food banks at a cheque presentation at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Peter’s Food Bank. This charitable contribution stems from fundraising efforts at the “Haunting of Power’s Pond” event, held from October 20th to 29th, 2023.
The donation was evenly distributed among the following local food banks within Mount Pearl, each receiving $3,867.16 to further their critical missions:
- Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Peter’s
- Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Mary Queen of the World
- Salvation Army
“Food banks play a crucial role in addressing hunger and food insecurity,” said Mayor Dave Aker. “We take pride in supporting them as they continue to assist individuals and families facing economic hardship.”
In addition to monetary donations, the city also collected a substantial quantity of non-perishable food items. The city extends appreciation to all participants in the “Haunting of Power’s Pond” event who contributed both funds and food items to bolster the stock available to local food banks.
